The 2023 Billboard Music Awards will take place on Sunday. It is a celebration of the year’s biggest hits and most celebrated artists.
Going into Sunday’s show, Taylor Swift was a finalist in 20 categories, the most of any artist. She already had 29 wins, making her the most-decorated female BBMAs artist. If she wins five more this year, she will surpass Drake as the winningest Billboard artist ever.
However, Drake was also nominated for 14 awards this year, along with other top finalists such as Morgan Wallen, SZA, The Weeknd, and newcomer Zach Bryan. There were also many first-time finalists including Bailey Zimmerman, Coi Leray, Fifty Fifty, Fuerza Regida, Grupo Frontera, Jelly Roll, Ice Spice, Metro Boomin, NewJeans, Peso Pluma, and Oliver Anthony Music.
This year’s BBMAs introduced nine new categories, such as Top Hot 100 Songwriter and Top Hot 100 Producer. Taylor Swift, Luke Bryan, and Jack Antonoff were nominated for both of these categories. Other new categories include Top Rock Duo/Group, Top Global K-Pop Artist, Top K-Pop Tour, Top K-Pop Album, Top Global K-Pop Song, Top Afrobeats Artist, and Top Afrobeats Song.
