Debra Martin Chase, the producer of Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants, revealed that the casting process for the 2005 film was challenging. Initially, Mischa Barton was considered for Blake Lively’s role, and Kristin Kreuk for Alexis Bledel’s role.
However, due to scheduling conflicts, the crew had to start over and consider new actresses. After an extensive search, they narrowed it down to Olivia Wilde, Missy Peregrym, and Blake Lively, ultimately choosing Blake for the role.

Actresses Who almost got Blake Lively’s Role in ‘Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants’
Debra Martin Chase, the producer of the 2005 film Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants, recently shed light on the casting process, revealing that another star was nearly cast in Blake Lively’s role as Bridget Vreeland.
During the February 7 episode of the Hollywood Gold podcast, Chase disclosed, “We were gonna cast Mischa Barton in the Blake Lively role,” while also considering Kristin Kreuk, known for her role in Smallville, for the character of Alexis Bledel’s Lena Kaligaris.
However, scheduling conflicts arose due to the delay in the production of Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants caused by the filming of Hilary Duff’s popular 2004 rom-com A Cinderella Story. As a result, many roles had to be recast.
“We started all over,” Chase explained, revealing that Kaley Cuoco and Alexa [PenaVega] were among the candidates considered for the roles, with Olivia Wilde making it to “the shortlist.”
Chase mentioned, “We saw everybody”, emphasizing the extensive search for the right actors to fit the roles. After a thorough evaluation, the field was narrowed down to Olivia Wilde, Missy Peregrym, and Blake Lively, with Blake ultimately securing the role with her “innocence” and “skills.”
