Electricity Department in Uttar Pradesh to Take Action From January, 2024 for Unpaid Bills

The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) is set to conclude the One Time Settlement Scheme (OTS) on Sunday. As of Saturday, out of the total 1.606 million defaulters in the district, 268,000 individuals have availed themselves of the benefits of this scheme, generating a revenue of 298 million rupees for the department. Following the expiration of the deadline on Sunday, the campaign to disconnect the lines of defaulters who do not register for the scheme will commence from Monday.

The electricity department will start taking action from January 1, 2024 if the bill is not paid.

In the Prayagraj region’s first phase, 101,536 defaulters came under the OTS ambit, with 35,140 individuals registering by Saturday. Meanwhile, in the second phase of the Prayagraj region, out of 1,504,765 defaulters, 233,228 individuals have availed the scheme. The Bamrauli division has been the most proactive in registering defaulters, followed by the Naini division. Engineer Manoj Yadav in Ganga Par and D.K. Thakur continued to register defaulters in their offices until late Sunday evening. Additionally, the department also arranged camps at various locations.

Chief Engineer of the First Zone, Pramod Kumar Singh, and Chief Engineer of the Second Zone, Vishwadeep Amberdar, stated that the lines of defaulters who do not register for the scheme will be disconnected from Monday.

In order to provide relief to consumers in the OTS counters, the electricity department has decided to keep all section and sub-divisional billing counters open on Sunday until midnight. Executive Engineers Bharat Singh and Najam Ahmad informed that billing counters will remain open until midnight on the 31st.
