When was toilet paper invented

Toilet paper has a fascinating history. The use of paper itself dates  back to ancient China, where it was first invented in the 6th century.

However, the invention of toilet paper as we know it today is often credited to Joseph Gayetty.

In the United States, Gayetty introduced commercially packaged toilet paper in 1857.

The paper was made in flat sheets and was medicated with aloe to provide a soothing effect.

Since then, toilet paper has become an essential item in modern sanitation practices.
