Your Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a vital document for filing Income Tax. It’s crucial to ensure that details such as your name, date of birth, photograph, signature, father’s name, Aadhaar, gender, address, or contact information are accurate. In case of any errors or changes, it’s important to promptly update and rectify your PAN card.

What are the Documents Required for PAN Card Update?

The documents required to update your PAN card in India will depend on the specific changes you need to make and whether you’re applying online or offline. Here’s a breakdown of the most common scenarios:

Required Documents (Common):

  • Proof of PAN: Your existing PAN card (if available).
  • Proof of Identity (POI): Aadhaar card, Voter ID, Driving License, Passport, Ration card with photo.
  • Proof of Address (POA): Same as Proof of Identity options.
  • Proof of Date of Birth (DOB) (For Individuals): Birth certificate, Matriculation certificate, Pensioner’s card with photo.

Step-by-Step Guidance for NSDL e-Gov Portal

  1. Visit the NSDL e-Gov portal.
  2. Go to ‘Services’ > ‘PAN’ > ‘Change/Correction in PAN Data’ > ‘Apply’.
  3. Fill out the Online PAN Application form with details such as:
    • Type of application (modification/correction or reprint)
    • Category
    • Personal details (Title, Last Name/Surname, First Name, Middle Name, Date of Birth/Incorporation/Formation, Email ID, Mobile Number, Citizenship, and PAN number)
  4. Receive a Token Number via email for future reference.
  5. Choose the submission method (e-KYC & e-Sign or physical application).
  6. If a physical copy is required, select ‘yes’ and enter the last four digits of your Aadhaar number.
  7. Update necessary details and select the relevant boxes for corrections or updates.
  8. Enter the new address and attach the required proof documents.
  9. Complete the declaration and attach a copy of your photograph and signature.
  10. Review the form, enter the first eight digits of your Aadhaar Number, and proceed to payment.
  11. Complete the KYC process and enter the OTP sent to your Aadhaar Registered mobile number.
  12. Continue with eSign and input the OTP received to verify and download the acknowledgment form.

Step-by-Step Guidance for UTIITSL Portal

  1. Visit the UTIITSL website.
  2. Click on ‘Change/Correction in PAN Card’ and select the option for details change.
  3. Choose the submission method and provide your PAN number, then click ‘Submit’.
  4. Upon registration, you’ll receive a reference number.
  5. Provide your name and address, verify your PAN number, and upload necessary documents.
  6. Upon completion, expect your updated PAN card in approximately 15 days.

Updating PAN Card Offline: How to Proceed

  1. Download the PAN card correction form from the Income Tax Department’s website.
  2. Fill out the form and attach the required documents.
  3. Submit the form to your nearest NSDL center or UTI center.
  4. You’ll receive an acknowledgment slip.
  5. Once your application is processed, you’ll receive your updated PAN card by mail.

Checking PAN Card Change Status

  • Visit the NSDL or UTIITSL website and select the ‘Know Status of PAN application’ or ‘Track PAN card’ option.
  • Provide the ‘Acknowledgement Number’ and Captcha code, then click ‘Submit’ to view the status.

Downloading Updated PAN Card

  • Visit the NSDL or UTIITSL website and select the ‘Download e-PAN/ e-PAN XML’ option.
  • Provide the PAN number, date of birth, GSTIN (if applicable), and Captcha code, then click ‘Submit’.
